Our club consists of enthusiasts such as yourself with a deep passion for their fish and other aquatic life. Member’s skills levels range from relatively inexperienced newcomers to those with several decades of fish keeping and breeding knowledge.
While we conduct regular monthly meetings where we attempt to provide informative presentations, what you get out of the club is governed more by your approach to the club than anything else. We are a fairly social club with a high rate of participation in activities such as excursions, collecting trips, competitve fish shows and the ocassional social gathering where we just chat about our fish. This environment allows our members to develop good friendships and this is where the benefits really are. I feel that over the time that I have been involved with the club that I have learnt more directly from my friends within the club, than from any club presentations.
. We are a generalist club with an interest in all areas of the hobby including livebearers, cichlids, natives, goldfish, exotic tropicals and aquatic plants. We aim to enhance your knowledge regarding the raising and breeding of the various animals that can be kept in an aquarium as well as the environmental issues that go hand in hand with a hobby such as ours. Care should be taken at all times to protect our own native fish stocks from environmental degradation and the threats posed by exotic species. An aquarium society based in Melbourne, Victoria, specialising in Cichlids. The Society was formed in 1972 and has published it's journal, `The Cichlid Monthly' since that time as a part of its effort to disseminate knowledge about this fascinating family of fishes. This Message Board is a logical, if under-utilised, extension of that effort. The Society meets on the first Wednesday of the month (except January) in the Mitcham Scout Hall, Brunswick Road, Mitcham. Meetings commence at 8 pm, but the hall opens around 7.30 pm allowing access to the Library and Trading Table as well as an opportunity to meet people. Meetings normally include cichlid-related presentations, Table Shows, a Trading Table and prizes. There are other regular activities including the Elaine Turner Memorial Art & Photographic Competition and two Home Show competitions, one of which is video-based while the other is judged in the traditional manner. Social activities, including but not limited to an Annual Dinner.
