Sydney taxi drivers to
pay a fine if they refuse access to people with guide dogs.
The Australia Human Rights and Disability
Discrimination Commissioner is himself blind. Mr. Innes
stated that he needs his dog at all times and that it is
wrong if he is refused access to cabs due to his dog.
He claims that a greater awareness of people with disabilities
and their needs is required by cab drivers.
The new fines and a special training program for cabbies
will hopefully improve the situation.
There will be also a system of ‘re-educating’
taxi drivers who have refused access to people and their
guide dogs.
