Lutino Macaw Born In Australia!
What is yellow and white with red eyes that should be blue
and gold with dark eyes? Answer: The very first red eyed
Lutino Macaw to be born in Australia!
This is earth breaking news for the bird world! Normally
the Blue and Gold Macaw is coloured with Blue, Gold and
Green with Black around the face and neck as in the photo
shown. There was a clutch of Lutino Macaws born in Texas
USA in 2002 but little has been heard of any others since
then and definitely none here in Australia. This is a big
first for aviculture in Australia.

The big news was announced in the Parrot Society of Australia’s
magazine with an important comment by President Stewart
Williamson about the importance of record keeping being
made clear with the genetic paper trail so carefully kept
for this new rare baby Lutino Macaw. The owner is able to
trace the birds back which will make having them legal and
also assist in future breeding programs. If you would like
to read about record keeping for exotic parrots you will
find a pamphlet on this topic in our bird section. Click
here to read “Keeping it Legal” issued by
the Department of the Environment and Water Resources.

At this stage the owner is being kept secret
as would be expected. The owner could be compared to a lotto
winner with his amazing first ever Lutino Macaw in Australia
being worth… well we can only imagine, but apparently
it may be for sale!
