According to the opposition, if these lucky pets' owners paid tax before they died then theoretically their executor would file a tax return and the $900 would go to their estate and ultimately to care for their pets after their death. This news caused quite a bit of comment on the ABC News page with comments like “…vouchers should have been given, redeemable at any store rather than cash”, “No reasonable person honestly believes that pets and dead people will get the payment.” Or “Why don’t my fish and budgie get any benefit?” and one humorous comment, calling the pets in receipt of the cash, “beneFISHaries”!
Let’s hope the pets spend up big on the wonderful world of pet products, foods and treats out there on the market to help the economy!
