The Canine Association of Western Australia

Promoting Responsible Dog Ownership ... because it's more than just walking your dog

We believe that all dogs deserve responsible owners and it matters not whether your companion is pure or cross bred and whether you own one dog or several, whether you are already involved in canine activities or would like to become involved we hope this site is of interest and assistance to you.

The CAWA is a source of valuable information regarding dogs and the joys of owning a dog. There are many activities you and your family could become involved in within our Association. We have obedience, agility, dog shows, retrieving and herding as well as tracking and endurance.

Many of these events are open to members regardless of the parentage of their dog. Its such fun to see the dogs and their owners enjoying the sport of Agility or Flyball in particular. The dogs are barking, their tails are wagging, they just can't wait for their turn to run the course.

Owning a dog is proven to be healthy for all members of your family. Walking your dog is an ideal way to keep fit, a dog in your home reduces stress levels and various medical studies have proven that dog owners seek medical treatment less, have fewer illnesses as well as quicker recovery periods. This all adds up to a smaller burden on the health system as well as a healthier and longer lifestyle for the dog owner.

We also run the Canine Good Companions program which is a training program offered to the members of the public, for a small fee, to help them turn their PESTS into PETS. Currently this program is offered in the Cities of Gosnells and Joondalup and is held four times a year over an eight week period. To enquire about this program contact us on the online messaging system below.

The CAWA is the largest representative body of dog owners in WA and is able to represent the views of its members at local, state and federal government levels. We also endorse microchipping as a means of positively identifying your dog which will help the Ranger get your dog home to you quicker if he is ever lost.

We also have a bi monthly magazine which is full of informative articles, handy hints and contacts as well as events schedules and results.

The cost of a membership is reasonable and the rewards are limited only by your own level of participation. So why not consider joining us and join in the fun!!!
