At Riverbank Animal Hospital
(Formerly South Grafton Veterinary Clinic) our animal companions are an integral part of our families and our work.

We do everything possible to assure the best opportunity for our patient’s health and a long life. Based in The Clarence Valley, Northern New South Wales, we aim to provide for all of your pet care needs.

Our 5 Points of Commitment

It is always tempting for us vets to talk about our credentials and years of experience and our fantastic array of equipment we have here at Riverbank Animal Hospital. Whilst we know that this is all important to you, let us be honest, what is most important to you are NOT our qualifications. It’s knowing 3 things that:

  1. Your pet will be nurtured in our care
  2. We recognise and respect your needs and expectations
  3. We’ll do our utmost to ensure your pet is healthy and happy

As pet lovers ourselves, it’s the little things we do for you and your pet at Riverbank Animal Hospital that demonstrate we are the caring veterinarians for pets for the residents of Grafton, South Grafton and the wider Clarence Valley area. We call them our “5 Points of Commitment”. Here they are:

  1. To ensure you feel welcome
  2. We’re committed to being available to you and your pet day or night.
  3. We know how stressful it is when your pet suddenly requires urgent veterinary attention.
  4. We’re committed to giving you a full range of options…
  5. We aim to keep your pet happy and relaxed.

We are the only veterinary practice in the Grafton area that deals exclusively with dogs, cats and other small pets such as rabbits (lagomorphs), guinea pigs (cavies), ferrets (Mustela furo), rats and mice. We also see lots of birds. We do not treat horses or livestock. We have chosen to do this so that we can strive to offer the best standards of care for your family pets by focusing exclusively on the small animals area of veterinary practice.

We are all about the animals and always treat your pet as part of the family. Customer service and dedication to your pet’s needs always comes first with our vets and team of highly trained vet nurses and office staff.

ANIMAL WELFARE SERVICES

Riverbank Animal Hospital (formerly South Grafton Veterinary Clinic) is a member of the Cat Adoption Scheme. A national program promoting the adoption of kittens and cats.

All kittens offered for adoption have been vet checked for health and temperament, they are de-flea’d and wormed and the adoption fee also includes full primary vaccination course, micro chipping and desexing. You also get a start up pack that includes some Advance premium Australian made kitten food, a collar and cardboard cat carrier to get you new family member home safe and sound.

This is a great way for you to get your new kitten as the cost of adoption at $160 is a huge saving on our normal charges for vaccination micro chipping and desexing. The savings add up to a massive $176 off our normal charges, yes that is less than half price! Click here to see kittens currently available.

Riverbank Veterinary Hospital supports the rehoming efforts of Happy Paws Haven and The Rabbit Rescue Sanctuary.

Enquiries for cats and kittens, puppies and dogs as well as rabbits as pets for adoption are welcome.

Did you know that for our clients that live out of town we offer a FREE day care service? If you need to bring your pet in for a consultation or vaccination appointment we will look after your pet whilst you take care of shopping or other appointments around town! Just one of the ways we can help make pet care in The Clarence Valley easier for you.

Our range of services available includes the following:

Providing veterinary treatment, surgery, hospitalisation of dogs and puppies, cats and kittens, rabbits, ferrets, pet rats and mice, aviary and pet birds including parrots such as cockatiels, budgerigars, cockatoos etc and softbills such as canaries and finches.

Bring your puppy or kitten in for their first vaccinations or your pet rabbit in to be vaccinated against the deadly Calici Virus Disease (RCD) which is lethal to bunnies. Bring in your pet ferrets for their initial or yearly vaccination against canine distemper and worming. If your bird shows signs of illness such as fluffed up feathers and sitting quietly, keep it warm and bring it straight in for veterinary treatment. Sick birds do not recover unless they receive antibiotics or other treatments immediately. Bring with you a sample of your bird’s droppings for testing under the microscope. This can show bird worms or high levels of bacteria etc that can make your bird sick.

The Benefits of a Professional Pet Groomer & Veterinary Practice working hand in hand...

The animal health care professionals at Riverbank Animal Hospital clearly understand the benefits of working closely with a professional groomer to give the best possible levels of care to their furry friends.

Experienced groomer Marnie Brown will often spot problems whilst grooming that the pet’s owners are often completely unaware of. Common issues noted include:

  • skin infections,
  • ear and eye problems,
  • teeth or gum problems,
  • lumps and masses.

When the groom is complete Marnie will then point out and explain her concerns to the client and give them the opportunity to consult with one of the veterinarians there and then. Quite often Marnie will have already asked a member of the vet team to look at her concerns and advise whether or not there is an issue to report to the owner.

Marnie says having the vets working along side her is fantastic and gives her the ability to really look after the health of the pets that she grooms.

For the vets having Marnie on hand is also very useful. The vets quite often get pets in the consult room that have matted coats or uncomfortable plugs of hair in their ear canals, a particular issue for poodle type breeds. The owners think it is fantastic that we can refer them straight through to Marnie in the grooming department for the coat to be clipped or brushed out and ears plucked and cleaned on the spot.

The one stop shop is also very convenient for a lot of clients with busy schedules. It is a very popular option for clients to come in for a routine visit such as vaccination and health check then leave their pet with us for a groom whilst the owners go shopping, they then pick up their pet on their way home.

"I found Chris to be very, very helpful.  I would highly recommend him to anyone who needs to know anything about their pets. He helped me to understand the medication issues my pet is experiencing and more.
He has a lovely manner and very easy to talk to. It was a pleasure talking to him and I thank The Pet Directory for giving me his details."
